Harry T. Moore, advocated for education and voting rights in the Central Florida area, including Goldsboro. He said that for every dollar that was sent on a white child, only 10 cents was spent on a black child. Mr. Moore was a victim of a hate crime which took place on Christmas day in 1951. A bomb was placed under his house by members of the Ku Klux Klan. Moore was being transported to the hospital in Sanford, approximately 30 miles from the city of Mims. He passed away on the way to the hospital and his wife passed away nine days after the incident took place. It received national attention, and unfortunately no one was ever convicted or prosecuted for the crime.
