Sojourner Truth, born Isabella Baumfree in 1797, was an African-American abolitionist and very famous women right activist. She was born into slavery, but eventually escaped in the 1820’s. A few years later, she fought to get her son back in her custody and went on to become the first African-American woman to win a court case against a white man. Truth gave many speeches during her lifetime and played a big role in the emancipation process for slaves. In her later years, Sojourner relocated to Battle Creek, Michigan. Truth passed away in 1883 at the age of 86.
